| Desert cabin stays powered all night! How I used my AIMS power inverter!
Well you would have to see Lucy to believe her! She's a vacation cabin up in Lucerne Valley, California, just 20 miles north of Big Bear Lake in serene desert wilderness with amazing mountain views all around, no telephone/electric poles, and little signs of civilization other than dirt roads and a few desert homes. There is just beautiful space in abundant quantities, with its only real enemy being noise pollution.
We've taken her from a rubble shell up to a livable off the grid 1000 sq. foot cabin that we plan to sell shortly. The AIMS power inverter was a key step in this. We have a great 12000 watt generator that can power up the whole house (5 rooms) including swamp cooler and water heater, satellite dishes, fridge, etc, but it's NOISY. What the AIMS inverter does is allow us to string a battery charger from the Generator to a bank of batteries (each battery will power things for 1-3 hours, so we can just stack up the batteries as we can afford and it will add to peaceful Lucy existence). Then, the inverter will power up all the things that don't take too much 'push', lights, TV, satellite dishes, fridge, swamp cooler - we save using the washing machine, hair dryer, on demand water heater for when the generator is charging up the batteries).
We've got a smart battery charger, so it will allow the Generator via the AIMS inverter to run the house while powering up the batteries, switching back and forth as needed to keep continuous charge for all the house load while we're charging up the batteries. Because we got a 100 amp battery charger it charges our batteries pretty quickly (few hours) while we're running our high 'push' items, like our 'on demand' water heater or washing machine and 'who cares' if you have a noisy generator going while you're taking a shower or washing your clothes!
Once the batteries are all charged up, the inverter runs like a Mohave green rattler (quiet as a mouse but some fierce power!). Now we can cook some popcorn in the microwave, fire up a hot toddy and snuggle in for a nice movie while the kids are outside counting the shooting stars or on the internet and all the while keeping the peaceful quiet and graceful ambiance of the high desert. It's an experience worth its weight in gold in today’s world!
Best Wishes to all you happy campers!
Connie
