Maintenance Contractor runs all his tools and equipment!

I bought the Aims 5000 Watt Power Inverter and a GPL-8DL AGM Lifeline Deep Cycle Battery and have had about 4 months to use the setup now. First of all let me say that the sale went smooth as silk and I received both the inverter and 160 lb battery the same day from two different carriers less than a week later. I would have NEVER thought that possible and it only gets better from here.

I installed the inverter in my new 2005 Chevy Express Cutaway with a 12'x6' Spartan custom upfit. I was able to find a nice unused space just in front of the right rear wheel well and under an existing compartment where I fashioned a compartment that fit the 8DL battery (approximately 20x10x10) with a battery integrator circuit to keep the charge from the trucks 145-amp alternator.

Using about 5 feet of 4/0 welding cable (bigger is better!) and some 1.5-inch PVC I routed the cable though the PVC up to the 5000-watt inverter that I mounted high on the right side of the FRP (fiberglass reinforced plywood) box. I smashed 2 pieces of 1/2" copper pipe to form a buss for the 2 negative and 2 positive connections on the inverter. I have no voltage drop from the battery to the inverter; all 1975 cold cranking amps are available.

To top it off the label can be removed and replaced on the inverter, on my setup it was upside down. I'm not sure that was on purpose but was a nice touch making for a neat looking installation.

I admit I had my doubts about whether this inverter would do what they claim, and whether using a single albeit LARGE battery to power my system would carry the sustained load. But it couldn't have worked BETTER! What a pleasant surprise. This thing has run everything I have thrown at it. The main thing I was aiming (no pun) to run was a rather large 115v air compressor that needed nearly 8000 watts to start up. It will start and run the air compressor AND a 3/4HP carpet dryer blower I use on hot days in the back of the truck at the SAME TIME.

You just can't imagine how much easier this system has made my working life. I use it almost daily. I am a maintenance contractor and carry tools and equipment for all the trades, plumbing, electrical, carpentry and a 120v wire welder. The welder also runs like a champ on this system. I can pull up on a job and not have to scurry around looking for an outlet heavy enough to power up to, which was a real problem sometimes. Remote work, like welding a grate in the middle of a street is no problem.

I also have a 18V 3 battery charger I keep on all day for my cordless set of power tools. To me that in itself was worth the price. If I can find a space I'll be adding a fridge! Actually I can't find a thing that won't run on this power plant if it's 120v. Less than 200 lbs total, 42 amps anywhere anytime, the size of a breadbox and totally silent, what more could you ask for? Thank you InvertersRus!
